Mairi Spowage

Professor Mairi Spowage leads the Fraser of Allander Institute, Scotland's leading economic research institute, based within the Department of Economics at the University of Strathclyde. Her work focuses on economic impact modelling, economic measurement, regional and trade performance, and public sector finances. Prior to joining the Institute, Mairi served as Deputy Chief Executive of the Scottish Fiscal Commission and Head of National Accounts at the Scottish Government. She has almost 20 years' experience in statistics and economic analysis, covering areas including transport, household surveys, national accounts and performance measurement. Mairi also holds a number of advisory and governance roles. She serves as an adviser to the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) and the Scottish Government's Advisory Group on Tax Strategy and is a member of the Finance and Public Administration Committee's adviser panel. She is a Non-Executive Director of the UK Statistics Authority, a member of the British Chambers of Commerce Economic Advisory Council and sits on the leadership teams of both the Centre for Inclusive Trade Policy and the Economic Statistics Centre of Excellence
