Laurie Macfarlane
Laurie Macfarlane is Co-Director at Future Economy Scotland (FES) and a Fellow at the UCL Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose (IIPP). He is also a Research Fellow at The Democracy Collaborative, a council member of the Progressive Economy Forum (PEF), and a member of North Ayrshire Council’s Community Wealth Building Expert Group.
Laurie has over a decade of experience as an economist working across think tanks and research institutions, and for the past four years has led a major research project focused on accelerating a just transition in Scotland. Prior to this, Laurie was a Senior Economist at the New Economics Foundation (NEF) and a research fellow at UCL IIPP, where he led research on public finance with Professor Mariana Mazzucato. His areas of expertise include green industrial strategy, public financial institutions, labour market transitions, land and nature, and fiscal policy.
